What is Voltage

OVERVIEW

Welcome to Level 2! In this chapter, we’ll learn about the basic of electronics and learn about three basic parameters – voltage, current, and resistance. These three parameters are very important to understand how electronic devices work and how they can be used to make cool and amazing fun projects.

By the end of this chapter, you’ll have a better understanding of what voltage, current, and resistance are, how they relate to each other, and how they can be used in electronic circuits. So let’s get started on this exciting journey into the world of electronics!

Voltage

Voltage is a measure of how much electrical energy a battery or power source can provide to a circuit. It’s like the force that pushes water through a hose. The greater the voltage, the more electrical energy is available to power the circuit.

Imagine you have a water tank that is full of water. The water in the tank has potential energy because of its height. When you open a valve at the bottom of the tank, the water flows out and the potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. Voltage works in a similar way – the electrical energy stored in a battery or power source has potential energy, and when it’s connected to a circuit, it can be converted into useful work, in the image above, the Drop or height difference is basically the voltage or potential difference

can you guess the voltage of the battery provided in your STEM Kit ?

Voltage is measured in volts (V) and is represented by the symbol V. Higher voltages can be dangerous, so it’s important to be careful when working with electrical circuits. With this simple explanation, a kid can understand what voltage is and why it’s important in electronic circuits.
